Lieke De Vry receives Ultima culture award for connecting work with Palestinian artists

Circus artist and teacher Lieke De Vry has been awarded an Ultima, the prestigious Flemish Culture Awards, for her inspiring work on intercultural collaboration. With the project Circus ID, she brought together young people from Belgium and Palestine in a powerful creative process.

The jury praised her as ‘the cement that connects people’ and praised her perseverance: ‘With her commitment, she shows that circus can build bridges and give resilience to people in the most difficult situations.’

Circus ID could still be seen on the Cirque Plus stage in 2024. The performance touched the audience with its passion, energy and human strength. Lieke proved how circus can be more than performance - it is also a vehicle for encounter, understanding and hope.
